After finding Dustin Higgs guilty of the kidnapping and murder of Tamika Black, Mishann Chinn, and Tanji Jackson, a jury determined that he should receive. It is certainly not unheard of for the government to redirect its accusations or change the narrative, but it should be considered unacceptable where one's life is involved. Here, we see that prosecutors changed their initial theory of the crime not because they wanted to discern the truth, but instead because they wanted to achieve maximum punishment for those individuals. Let me clarify: the person who killed the three women is sentenced to life in prison, whereas the man who did not kill anyone will be put to death by the government.Īs we have seen in many cases, just like that of the Exonerated Five, the criminal justice system is filled with faults.
